Pufferfish boss in the How to Fish Game
Starting the Pufferfish Encounter
The Pufferfish is the Island 3 story boss in the How to Fish game. Neither regular bait nor the Island 2 quest lure will summon it. Complete the Tourist's endangered-creature request for a Carrot, attach the Carrot to the rod, and cast only when the crew is ready—the boss appears immediately.
Recommended Loadout and Positioning
The inflated boss rolls across land and water like a spiked ball. Its movement pattern changes midway through the fight, so the crew needs both cover and room to reposition.
- Weapons: Bring a reliable firearm with enough ammunition to maintain damage during safe windows.
- Positioning: Use solid terrain or structures to break up the rolling path, but keep an escape route open.
- Co-op: Let one mobile player hold its attention while the rest maintain concentrated fire.
Phase Two: Avoid the Purple Trail
At about half health, the Pufferfish begins leaving a purple poison trail behind its rolls. Do not chase directly along that route. Rotate around the outside, wait for clean shots, and move the boat if the trail blocks the crew's fallback area.
Identifying the Tail Trophy
After the fight, locate the Pufferfish Tail before sorting the other drops. It is a story item, not ordinary sale stock.
Delivering the Trophy
Carry the Pufferfish Tail back to the Tourist. Turning it in reveals the coordinates for Island 4; killing the boss without completing this hand-in does not finish the chapter.
Protecting the Trophy from Seagulls
Never leave the Pufferfish Tail unattended: seagulls can carry the trophy away, which means repeating both the Carrot Bait exchange and the fight. In co-op, name the runner before the boss falls; that player grabs the tail while the others clear the sky.
FAQ
How to summon the Pufferfish in How to Fish?
Equip the Carrot rewarded by the Island 3 Tourist and cast it as bait. The Pufferfish appears immediately, so prepare before casting.
Why can't I go to the next island after killing the Pufferfish?
Pick up the Pufferfish Tail after the fight and return it to the Tourist. The hand-in, not the kill alone, awards the coordinates for Island 4.
